Dual Layer DVD Technology

Posted by:  :  Category: Computers

DVD is an optical disc storage format which has been slowly replaced by Blu ray format. For those who do not know, DVD sands for Digital Versatile Disc or digital Video Disc.

DVD stores approximately six times more data than CDs. Because of the next generation HD formats coming up now, DVD are sometimes referred to as SD DVD (standard definition DVD). HD DVDs or High definition DVD is on longer available as Blu ray Disc has replaced them all. For writing on DVD, red color laser beam is used, the wave length of which is in the range of 650 nm. Since it uses 650 nm wavelength light, it allows for a more precise etching on the surface, thus compressing the data more and increasing the recording capacity. .

DVD-R and DVD+R can only record data once and then it can only be read but not written. Single layer DVD has recording space of about 4.7 GB. The other type of disc is dual layer DVD. Dual Layer is a technology which permits 8.5 GB storing space on DVD+R disc. With Dual Layer (DL) technology, two recordable layers are obtained on a single sided DVD disc. For this type of recording, Dual layer DVD enabled burner and dual layer DVD media should be used. Dual layer is also referred to as double layer and it is written as DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL on the DVD media. The recording speed of dual layer media is lower than those offered by single layer media. DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM are re- writeable. You can record and erase the data any number of times on these discs.

Most people remember Verbatim because of floppies, though it it is a known name in data storage business. Verbatim DVD media is acknowledged for compatibility, high speed disc performance and reliability.  For archiving home videos, Verbatim offers dual layer DVD discs and good quality. Verbatim DVD R DL doubles the storage capacity. It has two Azo recording layers on single sided DVD discs. It stores around 8.5 GB of video and is compatible with most DVD players and drives. This storage means up to 4 hours of video. Verbatim DVD R DL (plus) comes in recording speeds of 2.4 X and 8 X. it has a range of disc surfaces like inkjet or thermal printable. You can get standard, which is 12 cm, or mini camcorder discs which is 8 cm type. Verbatim DVD R DL (minus) is a standard 8.5 GB disc with recording speed of 2X- 4X.

Advanced Understanding of Computer Software

Posted by:  :  Category: Computers

Call it computer software or just software, the role of software in a computer is crucial.  Computer software is a string of instructions which are systematically arranged in an effort to change the state of computer hardware in a precise sequence. It is hard to imagine a computer in the absence of any software. In a computer, software consists of an exceptionally extensive range of products and technologies developed by means of special techniques like programming languages, scripting languages or steady microcode or a FPGA state.  Almost all the software functions on basic computer software operating systems like Linux or Microsoft Windows. There are different types of software available like Application software which consists of word processing, which carry out useful tasks for users. System software on the other hand comprises operating systems, which interface with hardware to present the required assistance for application software.  Then there are computer softwares related to web page technologies like HTML, Perl, PHP, ASP.NET, and XML etc. There are also programming language applications like C, C++, and Java to name a few.

Today, with the advancement in technology, computer software can be formulated according to the need of an organization. For example, a hospital can have their own software while a retail store has software created according to their needs. All computer software is written in advanced programming languages which are easy to use and are efficient enough to implement in any required platform.

Before being commercialized a computer software is tested and declared fit if it qualifies through a series of tests. This computer software can be tested by an individual or a group of persons for their performance and functionality. Any glitches in the software are rectified before being released.

One of the main challenges being faced by individuals today is the protection of their computer from hackers and unscrupulous elements.  It is here Anti-Virus computer software programs play a leading role. They help protect your computer from spyware, different computer worms, trojan horses and any other newly created viruses.

There is also graphic software available which assist in creating colorful brochures, newspapers, magazines, banners and catalogues.

When you are sending and receiving mail or you have a new mail management system in your organization. You are able to achieve the desired results with the assistance of computer software. All in all the role of computer software is to make life easier depending on the individuals needs.

Tips for buying computer software:

  • Before buying computer software, ensure it is a genuine one.
  • Don’t install pirated software, as they are harmful to your computer system and contains viruses or Trojans. It is also illegal in most countries to do so.
  • Ensure your computer software has a full version and comes with an activation key, check regularly for updates.
  • Remember software piracy is an offence and you may have to face embarrassment or worst imprisonment if caught.

The Digital Data Storage is a highly reliable tape storage format which was launched in the last decade of twentieth century. HP DDS-4 C5718A tape combines huge data storage capacity and delivers inimitable performance. The HP DDS-4 tape format offers cheapest price per gigabyte. The DDS technology versions DDS4 and DDS5 tape are extensively used by the large enterprises. This is because these tapes provide extreme protection to the user’s data along with excessive storage capacity. The DDS4 tapes include Hewlett-Packard (HP) C5718A, Maxell 200028, Sony DGD150PWW, Fuji 26047350, Quantum CDM40, IBM 59H4456, and Imation 40963. All these tapes feature modern technologies to provide error-free data storage cartridges to the customers.

The HP DDS4 tape is an ideal solution for high-volume backup and archiving. The HP C5718A backup tape serves with enhanced durability and reliability. These tapes are specially designed to support the large businesses which require extreme reliability for their precious data. The media recognition system used by the HP DDS4 tape helps in verifying the data format instantly. The process of helical scanning is utilized by the HP C5718A tape to reduce error rate during data recording. The media of HP DDS-4 C5718A tape adds up a non-magnetic layer that is comparatively thinner than the one featured by the DDS-3 tapes. This non-magnetic layer makes the tape’s surface extremely smooth and maximizes its durability. The HP DDS4 tape has a strong and tough cartridge design which prevents it from damage and enhances its durability.

The HP DDS4 tape has great data storage capacity. The tape stores data up to 20 GB (native). It can also store data up to 40 GB in compressed mode. The advanced superfine metallix technology featured by the HP C5718A tape decreases the natural demagnetization and rectifies the recording density. The HP DDS4 tape transfers the data at a speed of 3 MB/s in native and 6 MB/s in compressed mode. The archival life of the tape is thirty years. The HP DDS4 tape does two thousand head passes and minimum of one hundred full backups in its lifetime. The length of the tape is one hundred and fifty meters. The HP DDS4 tape can be used with all the DDS4 drives.

The DDS data tapes are also preferably used by the home users as well as the educational institutes because the DDS technology provides cost-effective data tapes along with huge data storage capacity. The leading brands of the world including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Sony, Maxell, Fuji, IBM, Imation and many others are manufacturing DDS tapes from the time it was introduced.
